Welcome to my site, about my books, local history and writing, with a bit of art thrown in. I'm Lisa Horner, wife, mother, grandmother and cat mum too.

 

I've written two local history books, and have written articles connected to local history. Before writing my own books, I was a contributing researcher for the late Frances Clamp's book,  Basildon, Our Heritage and the Basildon Heritage Trail. Frances was a well-established local historian, author, and broadcaster.

I was very fortunate to be employed as a researcher by the late Vin Harrop, a well-established local arts champion, historian and cultural figure in south Essex who had a life-long dedication to Basildon. He was a great inspiration and shared his joy of our local history. Art was also his passion, another thing we had in common.

What with being encouraged by Sylvia Kent, President of the Brentwood Writers' Circle and well-established author and broadcaster, to go on Phoenix FM and other radio stations and promote my books, and Frances and Vin. Also, with the support of the Basildon Heritage group, particularly for my first book, 'Basildon Through Time', I have been well-supported and encouraged and am always grateful. 

I feel like it has been providence that I have become a local history writer, especially as Amberley Publishing contacted me in the first place to write my first book. They had come across a blog I wrote about the Basildon Heritage Trail when I was a researcher.

I have been on radio stations and have done talks about local history, which was something I never imagined I would do. I have also been a member of the Basildon Writers' Group which was a very encouraging experience, this is where I contributed a story to their second anthology.
